KOICA Supporters WeKO 3rd – Introduction & Opening Ceremony

I have been living in South Korea for the last 6 years and during these years, I have made tons of unforgettable memories and participated in bundles of programs to promote South Korea. But there was just one program that I had been hearing about for a long time but could never apply for it – KOICA Supporters.

A few months ago when I saw an ad on Instagram stating “Looking for KOICA Supporters WeKO 3rd”, I jumped out of my chair and was like “Yes, that’s exactly the program that I had been looking for”. And guess what, here I am writing my first ever post as a KOICA Supporter – meaning that I made it to this year’s final candidates for this program 🙂

What is KOICA?

  • The KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) is a governmental organization for Official Development Assistance (ODA).
  • The aim is to enhance the effectiveness of South Korea’s grant aid programs for developing countries by implementing the government’s grant aid and technical cooperation programs.

What is WEKO?

WeKO means We are the KOICA, meaning that people around the world are with KOICA. WeKO promotes ODA and KOICA to people around the world through various online and offline promotional activities.

WeKo Supporters Selection

WeKo Supporters are divided into 3 groups.

a) Student Division (21)
b) General Division (81)
c) Global Division (18)

The competition rate for the global division was 22:1 🙂 Now, I am feeling more proud that I made it to the final list of candidiates.

Opening Ceremony of WeKo 3rd

– Because of the pandemic, an opening ceremony was organized through an interactive metaverse platform called Zepeto.

– Through Zepeto, supporters could interact with each other and it felt like they are attending the ceremony in real.

Congratulatory Remarks

KOICA’s President Mr. Sohn Hyuk Sang gave the congratulatory remarks through his avatar too 🙂

We even had a tour of the KOICA Office too through Zoom meeting.

Oath Taking Ceremony

Even the Oath Taking ceremony was conducted through the Zepeto Avatars and I could literally feel like I am attending the ceremony in person.

O/X Quiz

Through the metaverse platform, we even participated in the O/X Quiz 🙂 Even though I couldn’t win but still it was super fun to participate.

Martin Luther King once said, “Life’s most persistent question is, “What are you doing for others?”

So, being among one of the KOICA Supporters, I am looking forward to keeping creating quality content and promoting KOICA and KOREA.
