This post is specifically for those people who are looking to change their visa status from D2 to D10 and since the rules and requirements keep on changing, it is always advised to call your immigration office before booking the reservation and well before time.

What is D10 Visa?

Well D-10 visa is called “Job Seeking Visa”. It is a temporary and short-term visa issued for those professionals, graduates who have graduated from universities but now willing to work in Korea. Since most of the times, you can’t get the job the moment you graduate, unless you are very talented like me (Just kidding 😀 I am also still on the job hunt), so the government announced this visa to facilitate those foreigners who want to stay and work here.

Pros and cons of D-10

Well D-10 comes with both pros and cons just like any other thing.

Pros:

i) First, you will have the ID card i.e ARC card that means you can go out of Korea and come back anytime you want.

ii) It is given for the period of 6 months. So you have plenty of time for job hunting.

iii) You can do an internship on this visa. (as far as I know it should not be paid one, but still it is better to confirm by calling Korea Immigration Hotline 1345)

iv) It can be renewed 3 more times. So, in total, they give you 2 years for job searching, and if you still can’t get one, LOSER you are.

Cons:

-i) You can’t work on D-10.

ii) Since the visa is valid for 6 months only, means that if you don’t get a job, you need to do the whole process again and again after every 6 months.

iii) Since the visa is valid for 6 months if you are one of the 3rd world countries like me, which need visa wherever you go, most of the countries may not issue you the travel visa 🙁

Documents required to apply:

Well here is a list of documents required to apply for D-10

i) 1 passport size photo (3.5*4.5)
ii) 1 copy – Certificate of School Graduation (MUST MUST)
iii) 1 copy – School Transcript
iv) 1 photocopy – passport (front only)
v) 1 photocopy – ARC (front & back)
vi) Change of Sojourn status form (available at the immigration)
vii) Seeking for Employment form (available at the immigration)
viii) ?100,000 in cash – visa application fee
ix) ?30,000 in cash – processing fee

Extra: You can print out your bank statement having around 3 million won. Although 90% of the time they won’t ask you for bank statement, still you can have back up.

How to fill out job seeking plan:

Well its just a tentative plan but make sure you fill it out properly. If you are too lazy to do any research and want my filled-in form as sample, let me know in the comments and I will PM you.

In the form you will write things like, you will create accounts on Saramin, Job Korea etc and start applying for jobs. You can also write about the job fairs that you will attend. Its very simple and they won’t ask you any questions related to your plan.

Once you have all the documents ready, book a reservation at your concerned immigration office well before time. Try to make the reservation around 1 month ago. One other thing, I heard that you need to have atleast CGPA score of 3 or greater out of 4.5 scale in order to be eligible for applying for D-10. Well, better to discuss this with immigration staff.
